Tobia & Afra Scarpa Artona Lounge Chairs

Ships from Milan, Italy

This pair of statement lounge chairs in walnut and original velvet mohair show absolute stunning craftsmanship and design, especially when viewed from an angle or backside. From the same collection as the famous Scarpa Africa Chairs, the walnut is inlaid with dark lines of wood, which create the effect of ebony. This is most evident in the signature curved back rest. These chairs can be sanded and revarnished to a lighter shade if desired by experienced woodworker.

The ‘Artona’ line by the Scarpa duo was in fact the first line ever produced by Maxalto. Maxalto was originally set up in 1975 as a high-end division of B&B Italia to focus exclusively on the production of artisanal, mostly wood furniture. The Artona line was their first project and also functions as a counter-message against the common prevailing use of plastics in furniture design during the postwar period.
